Petrographic analysis of thin sections may reduce the risk of your prospect. Sampling and description of core/outcrops using point-count methodology or image analysis can reveal aspects about a reservoir which are not revealed at other scales, such as on well logs. Once these details can be upscaled and corrrelated with petrophysical analyses, they will improve well or completion design. Paragenetic histories may identify diagenetic mechanisms that improve or hinder prospect economics.
